SIHC’s foster parent recruitment program is dedicated to the preservation of the Native American family and culture. There are approximately 55 children from the Southern Indian consortium tribes placed in non-Indian homes. Our mission is to recruit Native American foster homes in which to place Native American children who have been removed from the custody of their biological parents.
Services We Provide Include:
- Recruitment of interested and potential Native American foster families.
- Assistance to families during the foster parent licensing process.
- Support to foster families and foster children during their foster placement in our foster homes.
- Serve as a liaison with foster families, foster children, and San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.
- Assist families who are at risk of removal of their children.
- Provide training to equip foster parents with skills needed to parent foster children.
- Facilitate events and trainings to Native community members to promote culture, healthy lifestyles, and healthy choice.
Some requirements for Foster Parents Include:
- Complete an application
- Fingerprints and background check
- CPR/First Aid Certified
- TB test
- Training
- Home Inspection
