Safe Haven Supervised Visitation Program Southern Indian Health Council Southern Indian Health Council, Inc. was granted a two year implementation grant to provide monitored visitation services to American Indian tribes of San Diego County and the surrounding non-Indian community. Basic services are free for Consortium members and are available to urban Indians and non-Indian community members on a reduced sliding fee scale.
The purpose of this program is to enhance the safety of women and children by preventing domestic violence and child victimization during visits. The center is a safe, culturally appropriate, and accessible location where supervised visitation and monitored exchanges between parents can take place. The clients may have situations involving domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, or stalking. Safe Havens can provide:
- Supervised Visitation at varying levels of supervision per request or mandate
- Supervised Exchange by request or mandate
- Limited transportation where eligible
- Parent education
- Related services and referrals include Domestic Violence services, anger management, mental health counseling, parenting classes, substance abuse referrals, Indian Child Social Services and therapeutic supervision
The Safe Haven Supervised Visitation and Exchange Center is located at Southern Indian Health Council, 4058 Willows Road, Alpine, CA 91901 (3rd level). The center’s administrative hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, though the center is available after hours, as well as on Saturdays when necessary. There is a Safe Havens Manager, a full time Safe Havens Monitor, and part-time Safe Havens Safety Monitor on staff for this program. Each staff member is required to participate in 60 hours of domestic violence training.
